Stories Dr. Abdoulaye and Saade
With the expert surgical skills of Dr. Karolynn Echols and Dr. Sage Claydon, this 27-year-old patient, Saade, was repaired!
Saade had traveled from Agadez, a town on the edge of the Sahara Desert, having heard that a team of doctors could help her. Although happy and relieved that she had been repaired, Saade was not feeling well; her head ached; she couldn't sleep at night as her heart was pounding so hard as she lay in her hospital bed. Her resting pulse was 112. Dr. Abdoulaye wrote a prescription for Saade so that she could see a cardiologist at the National Hospital. IOWD's Executive Director escorted Saade to Cardiology - and she was examined quickly. More tests were prescribed - some of the tests were given at the National Hospital for free. IOWD's nursing aide, Mariama, accompanied Saade to Lamorde University Hospital, where she had to take another test. IOWD gave Saade and Mariama money for the taxis and for the special test at Lamorde, and IOWD took care of the costs of the medicines that were prescribed for Saade. But the medicines did not help... Saade's heart rate was still fast. All the tests had proven negative for problems. Dr. Abdoulaye continued to care for Saade... he sent her for an eye exam and sure enough, she needed prescription glasses! Apparently, she was having trouble with her eyes, and she became terribly frightened, thinking she was losing her sight! Stress played a very big part in Saade's racing heart!!!! We are waiting for an update on Saade now that she has her eyeglasses!!!
This young woman is very grateful for the help that she received from Dr. Abdoulaye and other specialists in the National Hospital; she is very grateful to Dr. Echols and Dr. Claydon for operating on her successfully. Saade is back in Agadez with her husband and children... a happy ending for a lovely young woman.
