What's New
IOWD is delighted to share this exciting news from Dr. Michael Brodman, Chairman of Mt. Sinai's Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science:
"It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Abdoulaye Idrissa to the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. Dr. Abdoulaye is a general surgeon from Niger who is expert in the care and treatment of patients with obstetrical fistulae. Dr. Abdoulaye will come to The Mount Sinai Medical Center on a regular basis to share his expertise on tragic complications of childbirth with our faculty, residents and students. By coming here regularly, Dr. Abdoulaye will also be able to bring back to his country new advances in medical technology and techniques that might improve the care of these women. We congratulate Dr. Abdoulaye on his appointment and look forward to working with him in the future..."
As far as IOWD is aware, this is the first time a Nigerien doctor has been appointed to an American Medical School. We are all extremely proud of Dr. Abdoulaye and wish him great success in his new role as Professor.
"I am thrilled to learn of Dr. Abdoulaye Idrissa's appointment to Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Idrissa's vast experience in the care of the obstetrical fistula patient will be an invaluable asset to residents, medical students, and the School of Medicine as a whole. This type of international exchange will certainly help break down intellectual and social barriers to care of fistula patients in the developing world. Having worked with Dr. Idrissa in Niger over the last four years has been a tremendous learning experience; one that I am sure will be reproduced again and again in his work as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Mt Sinai School of Medicine."
Bruce S. Crawford MD, FACOG
"Dr. Abdoulaye Idrissa is one of the most talented surgeons I have had the opportunity to know. His grace, skill and devotion to the care of fistula women in his country begets a profound admiration from those fortunate enough to work with him in the operating room and on the wards.
I applaud Mt. Sinai Medical Center's wisdom in appointing him to the faculty. Congratulations Dr. Idrissa!"
